Tips From The Basement Specialist

Define your space:

First you must determine what you’ll be using the basement for. The most common uses we see are:

* Play room for children

* Home office space

* Home theater

* Game room

* Teen or in-law suite

* Work-out room

Plan and measure:

Once you’ve decided what you want in your basement, design a lay out for the best use of your space and talk to the professionals to get some ideas for making your basement the best it can be for your family. A professional consultation can help you avoid costly design mistakes!

Get it in writing:

  • Hiring one contractor that can do the whole job can save you a lot of money.
  • Make sure you get a written quote for everything you want done.
  • Quotes should be written out for the full completion of your basement.

Hiring a contractor:

  • Get a contractor who is licensed and insured
  • Try to use contractors who are members of trustworthy organizations, such as the Better Business Bureau. It’s an important step to help ensure that you’re going to get what you pay for.
  • Always ask for references and check them out!

Paying your contractor:

  • Never pay a contractor money up front.
  • Work out a payment schedule which allows you to pay as the job is being completed.
